ICT as Situating tool

From the discussion on situating tools in our class, I learned that it is applications that put one in an actual environment in actual happening. One can get real feeling of situations using ICT without having to go to real field or real situation. There are lot of situating tools that exist which I haven’t known. I have seen in advertisement about driving course where one gets to experience driving using ICT before actually driving the car. After attending this class, I realized that it was called as simulation, driving simulation. I think these kind of simulations will be helpful in everyday lives. For driving simulation, one can use this simulation while learning driving where we can have same experience as driving a car but without any risk.

The first activity that we did in our class was using Graph Calc. I was made to realize the concept of lines on the graph of of linear equation. The activity using this application was very realistic and fun to do. I am sure our children in the school will love to do these kind of activities which is realistic and enjoyable.

The next activity which we did in our class; phet simulation, on the topic pH scale, the activity was very interesting and we can use it with our students. This kind of activities make the learning realistic with beautiful graphics and structures and will be fun to learn by students. There are lot of things of these kinds where students can explore and learn the concept easily.

Another activity that we did was using google map. We can use google map in different views; satellite view, terrace view and many more. We can visit certain famous cities and places using the google map. We can use this application to know the direction and visit places before we visit it so that we can get familier with it. It can be also used for teaching geography and social studies where children can be taught about latitude and longitude.
Likewise, there are many benefits of using applications which can make learning realistic and exciting for our children.

ICT as co-constructive tool

Computer as a co-constructive tool made us active in the class because through Google docs we could construct a lesson plan in a group. It was also found to be convenient for the teacher to assess how many members have participated in an activity or not. Using this application every member in a group got opportunities to share their views while planning a lesson plan on a science subject. Moreover, if one of the members makes mistakes, other members can edit immediately. This was the amazing experience I had because we didn’t know before as and when we do a group activity. I felt that it would be taught in the first year so that we could have used this application to discuss any kinds of task. By using google docs, three of us were able to plan a lesson very well just like we normally do ( meeting together in physical and planning lesson) by staying at our own home. I felt that this kind of application makes our work and learning more easier.
The link provided below is the lesson plan of my group created on google docs.

Students can use co-constructive tools to work cooperatively and construct a shared understanding of new knowledge. Students may also co-edit the same document from different places with the editing option where they can interact and edit their work together. There are many applications that can be used like electronic whiteboard, blogs and wikis discussion forum on portals.

ICT as Constructive tool

ICT as Constructive tool

Constructivism is an approach to learning that holds that people actively construct or make their own knowledge and that reality is determined by the experiences of the learner. I can say that ICT can be used as constructive tool for teaching and learning because by using ICT, students are engaged actively and they get opportunity to build their own knowledge using computer and browsing information from internet.

In case of our class, our tutor assigned an activity where we were asked to make simulated advertisement related to our locality to attract tourists. For this activity, I browsed internet for information of my village. Then, I created advertisement where I added some information and pictures but my tutor commented that I could add audio files and videos too to be effective and attractive advertisement. My edited simulated advertisement looked better than before. I must say, by using ICT, we get to experience and build our knowlege just like I did. By doing that small activity, I was able to build knowledge on my village and also create simulation. I am confident that I can now make better simulations.

I found out that constructive tool is very interesting and engaging where students explore through different tools to construct their own knowledge. And keeps students engage through the lesson and unlike the teaching in normal class we can integrate constructive tool in our lessons through manipulation of the information and planning the lessons in a power point presentation and by creating blog and classroom Google to have interactive teaching and learning. Therefore constructive tool is one of the effective teaching and learning methods which help the learners to learn effectively with full engagement throughout.

ICT as Communicative tool

Communicative tools are applications which enable easy communication between teachers and students and among students.

We discussed that there are two types of communication: synchronous and asynchronous.
I feel that asynchronous is much better while communicating since it does not require people communicating to be logged on the internet at same time. Teacher and students need not be logged on the internet at the same time to have discussion or for assigning a task/activities. In our country, there is internet issues and there are many situations where one face problem with internet when we are having discussions online. Therefore, we can use asynchronous for communication where teacher can assign task when the teacher logged on to the internet and students can also do same as and when they have good internet connection.
Asynchronous applications are; email, wechat, VLE, blog.

We focused on one of the communicative tools; blog. I heard of blog from internet and some people but I was unaware of what actually it was, its benefits and how ti works. After the learning about the blog, I was amazed with its advantages on teaching and learning. Blog can motivate learners and they can become better readers and writers because writing on blog can be interesting as other people can give feedback o it which is very helpful. For me, I enjoyed entering in by blog about ICT tools and my reflection on it. I am also planning to maintain different blog where I can write some exciting topics on my everyday life activities.

How to create blog

1. sign in to blogger.com
2. On the left, click the Down arrow
3.Click New Blog
4.Enter a name for your blog
5. Choose a blog address or URL
6. Choose a template and
7. Click Create Blog

Therefore, I think a blog can serve as a unique platform to share a person's thoughts, feelings, opinions or experiences. It is an interesting online journal or diary.

ICT as Informative tool

After reading about ICT as informative tool, I realized that most of us use the internet as source of information. In this 21st century world, the main plate form for information is ICT. Even students and teachers retrieve information using ICT  for learning and teaching respectively. We can now get information of any kind from internet, radio, television and from many more technologies but internet as informative tool is used in large scale in the form of websites, blogs and social media.
Teachers are able to get information for any concept they want to teach from internet easily and in various forms. ICT as informative tool is very important and relevant tools that adheres teachers to provide learning classroom very effective and conducive.
And students, they can retrieve any information on the content they are learning from internet easily and in vast.

One of the advantages of using ICT as informative tool is that while students are browsing information on internet, they learn to evaluate resources on internet and enhance their critical thinking.
In our class, our tutor assigned us a task on the topic "Is Hitler a gay?"
I looked up in internet for all the information about Hitler's sexuality in the forms of texts and videos. And I wrote about Hitler's sexuality after critically analyzing the documents that I read.

This is the link to the presentation on Hitler.

In a situation like this year, where the world is suffering a great pandemic, ICT is playing a huge role in providing information for students where learning takes place at home not requiring to physically be present at classroom. They can access information from ICT informative tools for information from wherever they are.

I feel ICT provides required information in great way and ICT indeed is a informative tool.

How do we use ICT as tool for teaching and learning?

ICT tools contribute to high quality lessons since they have potential to increase students motivation, connect students to many information sources, support active in-class and out-class learning environments, and let instructors to allocate more time for facilitation.

There are around five ICT tools for teaching and learning;
  1. Informative tool
  2. Communication tool
  3. Constructive tool
  4. Co-constructive tool
  5. Situating tool
